Wildlife You Might See During Your Stay at Glendale Valley Campground
If you love being surrounded by nature, you’re in for a treat at Glendale Valley Campground. Tucked away in the scenic heart of Central Pennsylvania, our campground is more than just a peaceful place to unplug, it’s also a fantastic spot for wildlife watching.
There’s a good chance you’ll cross paths (or at least catch a glimpse) of some of the area’s most iconic animals during your stay. Here are a few animals you might spot during your stay at Glendale Valley Campground:
White-tailed deer
One of the most common, and most beloved, wildlife sightings in the area. These gentle creatures are often seen grazing at dawn and dusk. Keep an eye out near open fields and wooded clearings, especially early in the morning.
Black bears
Yes, black bears do live in this part of Pennsylvania, but they’re usually shy and tend to avoid people. On rare occasions, they may wander through looking for food, so always store yours properly and follow campground guidelines. If you’re lucky (and quiet), you might spot one from a safe distance, especially in the cooler parts of the day.

Red and gray foxes
Both red and gray foxes make their home in the forests around Glendale Valley. Red foxes are more common and known for their bright orange coats and bushy tails, while gray foxes are sneakier and can even climb trees! These elusive animals are most active at night and during the early morning hours.
Bald eagles and ospreys
Both bald eagles and ospreys are known to nest and hunt in the area. Ospreys can be seen diving for fish, while bald eagles soar high overhead or perch in tall trees near the water.
Wild turkeys
You might hear them before you see them! Wild turkeys roam the woods and fields, often in small groups. They’re surprisingly quick on their feet and have keen eyesight, but if you’re quiet, you might catch a good look at these quirky birds as they peck their way through the forest.
Tips for wildlife watching
- Be quiet and patient. Most animals prefer to keep their distance, so move slowly and minimize noise.
- Go out early or late. Dawn and dusk are the best times to see wildlife, when animals are most active.
- Bring binoculars. You’ll get a better view without needing to get too close.
- Respect the animals. Never feed wildlife, and always observe from a distance for their safety and yours.
